First Rwanda Tech Purchase

Made my first tech purchase for the trip. Skipped the GoPro and went with a budget action camera that should handle point-of-view shots without wrecking the finances.

Why an Action Camera?

Want to be able to capture footage while keeping my hands free. Walking through memorial sites, hiking through Nyungwe, doing the canopy walk — there are going to be moments where fumbling with a handheld camera is the wrong call. A POV mount solves that.

A fellow student in the program suggested looking at GoPro alternatives. Found one that shoots 1080p, is waterproof, and mounts to pretty much anything. Fraction of the GoPro price. Not going to win any awards, but it should do what I need it to do.

The action camera I picked up -- 1080p, waterproof, and budget-friendly.

What It Does

  • 1080p video recording
  • Waterproof housing
  • Multiple mounting options
  • Compact and lightweight

Going to test it out before the trip. If the footage is usable I'll share some of it here.

Fundraising Update

Still at $200 on GoFundMe. If you can share the link on social media, that would genuinely help. Getting the word out is just as useful as donating. Three months to go.
