Service flow & 7-year parts
WanderRouter Pro v2 — Service Flow + DIY Policy + Cartridge-as-Service
The promise: every module we ship is either user-replaceable (DIY with video + tool included) or send-back-swappable. Factory 2-year warranty on every module. 7-year spare parts guarantee on chassis components. Cartridge-as-service: the cellular cartridge is replaceable every 3–5 years to track new cellular standards — extending Pro v2's effective lifecycle from 5 years (typical prosumer firewall EOL) to 10+ years (same chassis, 2–3 cartridge generations). DIY on a specific module voids coverage on that module only; rest of the device stays covered.
Special characteristic: Pro v2 is a 1U rack-mount appliance — Tier-2 Ambassador-assembled. Service flow has higher complexity than Standard + Bridge family due to: Tier-2 certification, 8-layer PCB, cellular cartridge subscription pipeline, redundant PSU option, dual-firmware-mode (OpenWrt + OPNsense-compat).

DIY policy (legal + practical)
What you can DIY without voiding warranty:
- Swap RAM SODIMM (8 / 16 / 32 / 64 GB) — no warranty impact on rest of device
- Swap M.2 NVMe RAID-1 pair (500 GB / 1 / 2 / 4 TB) — RAID-1 rebuild handles transitions
- Hot-swap cellular cartridge (any direction: install / remove / upgrade between SKUs) — no warranty impact
- Install rear LAN daughterboard (+2× 2.5 GbE) — no warranty impact
- Install USB modules (Thread BR / Zigbee / LoRa / LTE-fallback) — no warranty impact
- Replace Wi-Fi antennas (4× external) — no warranty impact
- Replace cellular paddle antennas (4× on cartridge) — no warranty impact
- Replace 2× rear Noctua fans (drop-in PWM 4-pin compatible) — no warranty impact
- Print + install community-designed accessories (cartridge dust cover, rack-ear replacements, antenna tilt clips, cable rake) — no warranty impact
- Update firmware manually via console USB-C — no warranty impact
- Switch between OpenWrt + WanderOS-Router-Pro (default) and OPNsense-compat alternate-boot — no warranty impact
- Factory-reset via reset button (rear panel) — no warranty impact
- Configure BGP / OSPF / Suricata / Docker / etc. — no warranty impact
User-DIY modules (documented with video, tool-friendly):
- RAM SODIMM (in/out)
- M.2 NVMe × 2 (RAID-1 mirror; hot-swap-capable in OS)
- Cellular cartridge (front-bay, tool-free)
- Rear LAN daughterboard (in/out via rear-bay cutout)
- All USB modules
- 4× external Wi-Fi antennas
- 4× cellular paddle antennas (on cartridge)
- 2× rear Noctua fans
- BLE module (M.2-style daughterboard)
- All open-STL accessories
Tier-2 Ambassador-only modules (require send-back service):
- Internal PSU replacement (mains AC handling + UL re-cert)
- Redundant PSU install (mains AC + UL re-cert)
- Lux Ambassador-engraved cream faceplate (laser-etcher operation)
- Mainboard / SoC / Wi-Fi radio SMT-level repair
- Chassis TPM 2.0 replacement (identity-binding requires provisioning)
- Cartridge TPM replacement (cartridge re-pairing to chassis required)
- Saffron LED strip replacement (chassis disassembly + recalibration fixture)
- Saffron pinstripe re-anodize (requires anodizer)
- 8-layer mainboard PCB swap
What voids coverage on a specific module (not the whole device):
- Physical damage to that module (drop, liquid, mains surge, antenna over-torque)
- User-initiated SMT-level modification on that module
- Unauthorized firmware modifications that bypass security model
- Dev-kit cartridge use voids cartridge-bay coverage but not chassis coverage (dev-kit accepts RF-emissions responsibility)
What voids whole-device warranty (rare, only genuine negligence):
- Removal of the Ambassador signature card (provenance tampering)
- Physical damage from use outside the product's intended environment (>80% sustained humidity, mechanical impact beyond rack-mount equipment ratings, water immersion)
- Unauthorized reselling as refurbished without our repair
- Tampering with chassis TPM 2.0 secure-boot chain
- Removing cartridge TPM identity-binding (anti-theft tampering)

Send-back service procedure
For the user:
1. Open WanderOS → Device → Service → Request send-back 2. Choose service type (repair / upgrade / cartridge-swap / faceplate engraving / redundant PSU install / out-of-warranty) 3. Review estimated cost breakdown 4. Pay via integrated checkout (Stripe) 5. Print shipping label (pre-paid for in-warranty cases) 6. Pack device + tool pouch + Ambassador card (don't lose the card!) + original molded-pulp tray 7. Drop off at carrier (UPS / FedEx / USPS); 1U rack-mount ships safely with original packaging 8. Track progress in WanderOS — "Received" / "Diagnosing" / "Tier-2 Ambassador-assigned" / "In work" / "Quality check" / "Shipped" 9. Receive device back, typically 5–7 business days; Lux engraving 7–10; redundant PSU 5–7
For the Tier-2 Ambassador at repair depot:
1. Receive package, scan tracking 2. Open service ticket; review user request + device service history 3. Open device (T10 Torx top cover); inspect interior; photograph condition 4. Perform requested work:
- RAM / NVMe / USB / antenna / fan swap: same-day Tier-2 work (15–45 min)
- Rear daughterboard install (LAN expansion): 30 min Tier-2 work (also DIY-documented)
- Redundant PSU install: 60 min Tier-2 work + UL re-cert paperwork + 2nd IEC C14 inlet wiring + PSU bay clearance verification
- Cartridge swap (subscription replacement at year 3): 15 min Tier-2 work — install new cartridge, verify TPM pairing, pack old cartridge for refurb pool, re-test
- Lux faceplate engraving: swap faceplate to laser-etcher fixture, run Ambassador's design pattern, verify post-anodize integrity, return with new signature card
- Antenna replacement: unscrew + screw new; re-run 8-chain (Wi-Fi) or 4-chain (cellular) VSWR test
- Repair / SMT diagnosis: escalate to specialist Tier-2 Ambassador if beyond Tier-2 scope
- Cartridge fault: swap old cartridge for new (refurb if available, new if not); old cartridge sent to forensics + refurb pool
5. Re-test unit on production test fixture (450-sec automated 20-test pass) 6. Seal with new top cover; update Ambassador signature card if Ambassador changed 7. Pack in molded-pulp tray + outer box 8. Log work in unit service history + cartridge service history (permanent record) 9. Ship back; scan tracking update
---
Quality standards
- Every send-back service unit passes the same 20-test production test as a factory-new unit (450-sec automated)
- Every Tier-2 Ambassador at the repair depot is a certified WanderVerse Tier-2 Ambassador (16-hour training + assembly + repair certification + BGP/Docker/HA config knowledge)
- Every device gets a new Ambassador-signature card if the Ambassador changed
- Service history accumulates on the unit's permanent record (inside-top-cover signature card stack)
- Cartridge service history is logged separately per cartridge serial (since cartridges may be paired with different chassis over their lifecycle in the refurb pool)

- Cartridge bay enclosure sleeve + retention latch + keying pins + dust flap
- 4× cellular paddle antennas (replacement set per cartridge SKU)
Cartridge-as-service (the lifecycle-extended innovation)
Cartridge SKU lifecycle is 3–5 years — much shorter than chassis 7+ years, because cellular standards turnover faster than networking hardware.
Subscription customers:
- New cartridge ships at year 3 (or year 5 depending on cellular generation cadence) at zero additional cost
- Old cartridge returned in prepaid envelope
- Old cartridge inspected, re-flashed, antenna-retested, and either:
- Refurb pool (resold at ~60% original price as budget cartridge for Mission Partners / HAVEN-low-budget deployments)
- Recycled if too damaged for refurb (cellular modem module IC + carrier PCB recycled per WEEE)
Outright customers:
- Customer can buy new cartridge anytime (at outright price) when ready to upgrade
- Optional: trade-in old cartridge for ~30% credit toward new cartridge purchase
At year 7 (chassis EOL):
- We publish every manufacturing file needed to make a replacement chassis part yourself — STLs for mechanicals, schematics sufficient for repair, firmware source that compiles to a flashable image
- Cartridge SKUs with active production at year 7 continue subscription / outright availability beyond chassis EOL (cartridges outlive chassis generation)
- Refurb pool of older cartridges + chassis remain available indefinitely via Ambassador network
What "spare parts" does NOT mean
- Consumables (RTC coin cell — lasts 10+ years but excluded)
- Items the user can source from standards-compliant aftermarket (Cat 6 cables, USB-C cables)
- Parts where a v2 chassis successor (v2.1 / v2.2) is a drop-in replacement (we publish migration paths; user not stuck on EOL part)
- USB-attached modules purchased separately (Thread BR / Zigbee / LoRa / LTE-fallback — separate SKUs with own 7-year commitments)
---
Tier-2 Ambassador certification + program
Pro v2 ships exclusively from Tier-2 Ambassador-certified assembly stations. Tier-2 certification:
- 16-hour curriculum (vs Tier-1's 8-hour)
- Topics: rack-mount assembly + 8-layer PCB handling + cartridge bay mechanical precision + redundant PSU wiring + BGP/Docker/HA factory-config + OPNsense-compat alternate-boot + cartridge subscription billing pipeline basics
- Hands-on certification: assemble + test + commission 5 Pro v2 units end-to-end + pass 95% production-test yield
- Tier-2 Ambassadors are paid ~40% higher hourly rate (reflects training + complexity)
- Community Pool 60/30/10 split applied to labor share
Pro v2-only assembly: Tier-2 Ambassadors can assemble Pro v2 + step down to Tier-1 SKUs; Tier-1 Ambassadors cannot assemble Pro v2 without certification.
Refurb depot: Tier-2 Ambassadors staff the Pro v2 refurb depot; cartridge refurb (post-subscription return) is a separate Tier-2 sub-cert (cartridge cellular cert + carrier-relationship knowledge + IMEI re-flash + per-band antenna retest).
---
Repair tiers
- Self-repair: RAM, M.2 NVMe, USB modules, cellular cartridge, Wi-Fi antennas, cellular antennas, fans, rear LAN daughterboard, open-STL accessories — documented with video, tool pouch included
- Tier-2 Ambassador (45–60 min/unit assembly + 30–45 min/unit repair): rack-mount assembly + 8-layer PCB handling + factory-config + repair flows. Training: 16 hours. Station investment: $1,000 soldering station + $1,000 ESD workstation + $5–10k Stage-5 fixture share (amortized) + cartridge-bay alignment fixture + cellular test-mode base station for cartridge cert pre-check.
- Specialist Tier-2 (cartridge cert depot): PTCRB cert workflow + carrier-relationship management + IMEI re-flash + per-band antenna retest. Sub-cert beyond Tier-2.
- Tier-3 not applicable: medical-grade reserved for medical_tricorder family.
---
Ambassador signature
Every Pro v2 unit carries a Tier-2 Ambassador signature.
Standard tier (default)
- Thermal-printed Ambassador card affixed to inside-top-cover (visible when chassis opened for service)
- Card includes: Ambassador ID (pseudo-random), assembly date, unit serial, QR → Ambassador's WanderVerse page, cartridge SKU at assembly + cartridge serial if cartridge ordered
- Card stays at refurbishment; second card added beneath (accumulated provenance)
Lux tier (+$80)
- Ambassador hand-designs unique signature pattern (their personal mark)
- Laser-etched onto the cream faceplate during assembly
- Etching depth 0.05–0.1 mm — exposes underlying aluminum against cream anodize
- Front-visible from rack-room — Pro v2's faceplate is the most rack-visible signature in the WanderVerse SKU lineup
At refurbishment
When unit returns for refurb, second signature added beneath inside-top-cover card. For Lux units: original cream faceplate engraving stays; second card documents refurb Ambassador + work done + date + cartridge serial swapped (if applicable).
Provenance accumulates. Service history is physically readable.

Survivor / identity-aware service considerations
Pro v2's role in identity-aware deployment extends to service:
Covert / Quiet Mode support during service
- When user requests service, WanderOS offers option to scrub identity-aware data before ship (household member profiles, family filter rules, identity-aware blocklist preferences, cartridge subscription identity, BGP peer secrets, Docker container secrets)
- Tier-2 Ambassador receives device with minimal user-identifying data
- After service, Tier-2 Ambassador sends encrypted-data-wipe confirmation; user restores from local backup if desired
Duress-code support (Pro v2 enhanced)
- Pro v2's stronger compute supports more sophisticated duress modes than Standard
- WanderOS → Security → "Duress code"
- Duress password reboots into decoy profile (minimal setup, appears unused)
- Original config encrypted in hidden partition; decrypted with recovery code sent to pre-shared trust contacts
- Cartridge identity duress override: entering duress code while cartridge inserted will mark cartridge as "compromised" — chassis TPM revokes cartridge pairing; cartridge stays powered-down until Ambassador re-pairs via send-back service
- Service requests initiated from duress mode go to general-pool Tier-2 Ambassador (not user's pre-assigned Ambassador) to protect Ambassador relationship from coercion
Panic Wipe
Pro v2 supports more aggressive panic wipe than Standard:
- Crypto-erase NVMe RAID-1 via WanderOS (hardware self-encryption on Samsung 980 + LUKS overlay)
- Factory-reset + chassis TPM reseed via reset-button hold (10 seconds)
- Cartridge identity revoke via WanderOS panic command (cartridge stays powered-down + dust-flap closed)
- Container snapshot wipe — Docker / k3s containers + persistent volumes wiped
- BGP peer secrets + Tor relay keys + Tailscale auth keys + Wireguard server keys all rotated
- Combined: device returns to pre-provisioned blank state; no residual user data; cartridge stays powered-down until Ambassador re-pairs
Invisible Mode
- Optional: device name, admin UI chrome, SSID auto-suggestion swap to generic ("Network Router" / standard web admin / non-branded SSID)
- Toggleable in WanderOS → Security → "Invisible Mode"
- Ambassador signature card remains (hidden inside-top-cover)
- Cartridge identity remains (hidden; chassis-TPM-bound)
- Coercion-resistant toggle: Invisible Mode disable requires physical Tier-2 Ambassador service — prevents partner / abuser from finding "remove Invisible Mode" option in UI
Trust-contact-only sharing
- Pro v2's Tailscale + WireGuard + HomeKit Find My location sharing requires pre-shared trust list
- No default "share with anyone with link" options
---
Refurbishment flow (end-of-life returns)
- User returns Pro v2 for recycling → $50 credit toward next WanderRouter-family purchase (higher than Standard's $25 due to higher-value chassis)
- Tier-2 Ambassador inspects: if repairable (>70% component reuse viable) → refurb for resale at 30% off retail (4-year warranty)
- Refurb units carry both original + refurb Ambassador signatures
- If not repairable: parts harvested for spare-parts inventory; chassis aluminum + 8-layer PCB recycled per WEEE
- Cartridge handled separately: even if chassis EOL, cartridge can transfer to another Pro v2 chassis (with Ambassador re-pairing) — cartridge lifecycle independent of chassis lifecycle
---
Service-flow summary
Pro v2 is the most service-rich SKU in the WanderRouter family:
- DIY-friendly RAM / M.2 / cartridge / antennas / fans / USB modules / rear daughterboard (~5–10 min per upgrade)
- Tier-2 Ambassador-only for: redundant PSU, internal PSU replacement, Lux faceplate engraving, SMT repair, TPM replacement
- 7-year chassis spare parts commitment
- Cartridge-as-service: 3–5 year cartridge replacement cycle extends effective device lifecycle to 10+ years
- 1U rack-mount form factor ships standard ground via UPS/FedEx/USPS (with original molded-pulp tray protecting chassis)
- Front-visible Lux signature (from rack-room front)
- Cartridge subscription pipeline integrated with WanderStore + Stripe billing + Community Pool 60/30/10 split
Ready for Stage 10 (Gate Review).
Open STL files
WanderRouter Pro v2 — Open STL Files
Published under Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 for accessory + rack-mounting + cartridge-care parts (fully open — remix, redistribute, share-alike). Lux-tier Ambassador-engraved cream faceplate is NOT published — that's per-order Ambassador laser-etched and unique.
The image-locked chassis (slate body + cream anodized faceplate + saffron pinstripe + 4× external matte-black Wi-Fi antennas + saffron LED strip + cellular cartridge bay + machined rack ears) is not published as STL — it's manufactured from anodized aluminum, not user-printable. STL files in this directory cover accessories + cartridge dust cover + rack-mount alternatives + cartridge antenna tilt clips that complement the chassis without changing it.

Why open-STL accessories?
Per Standard 3 (open STL) + Standard 4 (7-year parts) + cartridge-as-service repair-culture commitment:
- Pro v2 lives in racks for 7–15 years (cartridges turnover every 3–5 years; chassis spans multiple cartridge generations)
- Physical accessories (cartridge dust cover, rack ears, cable management) wear out, get lost, or need adaptation as user's rack environment evolves
- Users in remote regions can't always wait for shipping; print locally instead
- Rack-room setups vary widely (depth, cable routing, alternate-mount preferences); printable accessories let users adapt Pro v2 to specific environments
- Cartridge-as-service generates physical artifacts (old cartridges) — open STL for storage/display stand celebrates the lifecycle-extended architecture
- Community remixes generate ideas we wouldn't have shipped (e.g., cartridge antenna protector clip — community would make this anyway; we publish to make it easy)
- Lower e-waste: a broken cartridge dust cover shouldn't force a whole-chassis RMA

Future files (post-launch)
- Acoustic dampener pad — for racks with hollow shelves where 2× rear fans cause subtle resonance
- NVMe RAID-1 drive carrier — for users who want hot-swap NVMe drive bay (vs current top-cover-removal swap)
- Cartridge swap tool — small bezel-protector tool for repeated cartridge testing (cartridge-bay-friendly)
- Multi-cartridge holder — for Mission Partners who carry multiple cartridges (different region SKUs) for in-field deployment
- HAVEN safehouse rack-cabinet integrated mount — adapter for HAVEN-specific rack cabinets
- Color-tint faceplate overlay — clip-on cosmetic overlays (non-destructive) for users who want visual variation without replacing cream anodize
- Seasonal / community edition accessories — community-designed variants (saffron-tint cartridge dust cover, pride-flag-color rack-ear strips, etc.)
- Out-of-band-management dongle holder — clip for USB-C IPMI-like dongle so it doesn't dangle

- ❌ Mainboard or cartridge carrier PCB files (proprietary IP at v2.0; cartridge carrier PCB open-spec planned for v2.1+ release)
- ❌ Cellular modem module STL (Telit + Quectel proprietary; user buys cartridge with modem pre-installed)
- ❌ Internal PSU / Mean Well STL (Mean Well IP)
- ❌ External Wi-Fi antenna STLs (vendor proprietary)

The chassis IS the product. The cartridge IS the marquee feature. Their visual + electrical fidelity is image-locked + spec-locked. Accessories that COMPLEMENT the chassis + cartridge are open-STL.
