Amazon was fined €32 million by French data protection authorities in 2023 for illegally monitoring warehouse workers — tracking scan rates, break durations, and toilet trips with a granularity the regulator found 'excessively intrusive.' Amazon Flex drivers in the US are monitored via AI camera systems that score them on eye contact and following distance. Amazon Labor Union's Staten Island win in April 2022 — the first successful US Amazon union drive — happened over 15 months of organizing that couldn't use company communication systems. NLRA Section 7 protects the right to discuss wages and working conditions, including via personal phones, but organizing over company WiFi on company devices carries documented retaliation risk. Prop 22 was upheld by the California Supreme Court in July 2024, keeping 1.4 million California gig workers classified as independent contractors without minimum wage, overtime, or benefits. LoRa mesh doesn't touch company networks and cannot be monitored by corporate surveillance infrastructure. WanderUnion is the organizing infrastructure that doesn't require trusting the company's network.

  • LoRa mesh for organizing on Amazon/warehouse/agricultural surveillance infrastructure — no company network
  • Amazon €32M French GDPR fine: documented granular worker monitoring is the adversary model
  • NLRA Section 7 rights: wage discussion + organizing protected — documentation of employer retaliation
  • ALU Staten Island model: 15-month organizing over personal channels — WanderUnion is that channel
  • Prop 22 upheld July 2024: 1.4M California gig workers still misclassified — misclassification checker by state
  • Strike fund coordination: transparent dues tracking, disbursement accountability, multi-sig approval
  • Internal union accountability: grievance tracking, voting records, contract comparison
  • Worker center connections: gig, contractor, undocumented workers outside NLRA coverage
  • Collective bargaining intelligence: wage data aggregated from WanderCrew pattern data — anonymized
  • Cooperative ownership tools: worker co-op formation, land trust, multi-stakeholder governance
