Windows 11 Recall, announced in 2024, records a screenshot of your screen every 5 seconds and stores it in a locally searchable AI database — capturing banking sessions, private conversations, medical records, and legal documents. Microsoft delayed the feature after backlash but has continued implementation. Windows 11 sends diagnostic telemetry to Microsoft by default that includes app usage, error reports, and behavioral data — this cannot be fully disabled without enterprise tools. macOS Ventura sends app usage data to Apple for Spotlight search improvement. macOS Gatekeeper sends a hash of every app you launch to Apple's servers to check for known malware — this is a real-time log of what software you run. Every mainstream OS has telemetry that is either on by default or cannot be fully disabled. Hardened Linux with WanderCore is the only consumer workstation configuration with zero telemetry. Not a new computer — a configuration spec for existing hardware with one-command setup.
