Food Travel

Markets, meals, and what food tells you about a place.

You can understand a lot about a place by what it eats, how it eats, and who gets to eat what. Food reflects economics, history, geography, and culture in ways that museums sometimes don’t. My approach when traveling is local markets over tourist restaurants, regional dishes over international chains, and paying attention to what people are actually ordering rather than what the English-language menu highlights. These posts cover food-forward experiences from various trips—wine country, city markets, port-town seafood, and the po’boys of New Orleans—with enough specifics to be actually useful.
